Yes, this is essentially what Caligari (and, I suspect, TrueSpace) does.
There are always 3 coordinate systems available: (1) Absolute (like LW),
(2) Screen (i.e., relative to monitor), and (3) Object (that is, object,
light, camera, etc). I miss those options coming from Caligari, but then
again, there are a lot more attractive features to LW!
